Wow! You certainly have done your research. There are so many names, in addition to so many surnames, on your list. I think if I met any of those people we wouldn't realize that we were from the same family.... You have done such beautiful work! I enjoy connecting with people and you have certainly laid it all out neatly for us.
Thank you

Elana Aufrichtig

I found your site, and was quite grateful for the article you included, which had quite a bit about my grandfather Erich Lowinsky (Elow). It was fascinating to read, and I can't thank you enough for including it.

I was also glad to see that in the notes themselves, the author had made use of my grandfather's Sammlung at the Akademie Der Kunste in Berlin, which was my intent in lending the material.

Again, thank you

Connections: Aufrichtigs - Holocaust

I found your website when researching the life of my cousin Paul Sondhoff (1923 Vienna -1993 New Jersey).  The document that you have on the Walter Aufrichtig page confirms that Paul was on a transport with Walter to Traunkirchen, Austria, on 4 December 1940:

KZ-Gedenkstätte und Zeitgeschichtemuseum Ebensee Jüdische Lagerinsassen des Reichsstraßenbau-Wohnlagers Traunsee

This confirms information I have from another source that Paul volunteered for a work camp to keep his mother and younger sister from being deported.  Somehow, Paul was returned to Vienna from Traunkirchen, but his mother and sister were sent to Maly Trostinec and killed soon thereafter.  Paul then went into hiding and survived.

Can you tell me the source of this document?  I would like to be able to site to an original source for it.

I have appreciated and admired your website ever since I found it a couple of years ago just as I was beginning my own family research.  You've set a high bar for the rest of us!

I can’t believe my luck in finding your site. I am a teacher of education methods at University of Northern Colorado, USA, and for several years I have been using a Missouri state death certificate for Charles Aufrichtig to teach school teachers how to read and use primary sources. I found this interesting death certificate by chance while searching 1918 death certificates for evidence of the influenza epidemic.

In the past I have googled Charles and his father Alois with no success. I don’t know how long this Aufrichtig site has been up, but it was a surprise to see it today! My college students have often wanted more information on Charles, because his death certificate reads like a mystery story. Now I find a picture and an obituary notice on your site (very cool)!

To find suddenly such a flood of information on a single person is truly amazing.

Thank you again for maintaining your site.

My grandma's maiden name was Hilde Weissenberg. Her great grandpa was Jacob Weissenberg (b late 1700s). Elisabeth Weissenberg, married to Georg Aufrichtig, was a grand-daughter of his. The information on your site was very interesting and I have incorporated it into my family tree now. Your web site is certainly very impressive - congratulations

Your work on the Aufrichig-family is great.
I want to draw your attention to a remembrance project that is taking place in Vienna, now. Within this project it is possible to set stones for the family members, who were murdered in the Holocaust. More information (in German) on our homepage: The stone for Erna Aufrichtig is on the first page. I enclose the decriptions of both of our projects.

Location: New Zealand
Connections: I was looking for my family’s Aufrichtig website to correct some details (as my grandfather’s name was Jacob Aufrichtig) and I accidentally came across your website.    It is not a very common name – especially where I grew up in South Africa where pretty much all the Aufrichtigs are related, so I wondered if there was a connection to you?

Great site

Comments: Congratulations to you for a wonderful site. I could not find the Hamburg Aufrichtig on it, so here is the information:

Max Aufrichtig (8 Jul 1879, Hamburg-20 Jun 1950, London) married my relative Sabina Kalter (28 Mar 1889, Jaroslaw-1 Sep 1957, London) in Hamburg on 30 Jul 1919. Sabina was a renowned opera singer in Hamburg, but I believe she studied at a music academy in Vienna. Max's address as of 26 Jun 1923 was Husumerstrasse 21, Hamburg. They emigrated from Hamburg to Hampstead about 1939, and, subsequently, used the surname Andrews. They had a son, Kurt H./Keith (c. 11 Oct 1920, Hamburg-4 Apr 1989, Edinburgh), and a daughter, Renata Berta/Renee (c. 9 Sep 1923-29 May 1991, Edinburgh), but I do not know if either married or had children.

My main interest is in the Kalters, and I also have established a family website, at

Comments: Hallo
I'm interested in getting in contact with Panuska , because my grandfather was Karol Panuska who went to Argentine with some of his brothers after 1915. We only know that the well water of the family was poisened and that then they were obliged to flee. I am now leaving in Switzerland and I would very much like to know my relationship.
Would you please forward this to the Lady Silvia Panuska in your site or could you give me an advice how to get information on Panuskas?
